Koinonia Academy specializes in meeting the needs of families who wish to provide their children with a challenging, comprehensive and classical Catholic education. Classes are offered for students who need remediation or advanced classes. Back to top
Research-based progams include:
RIGGS PHONICS: a neuro-linguistic program, teaching reading and spelling through all the senses. Proven effective even with dyslexic students.
- Koinonia students' reading scores increase an average of 2.7 grade levels in reading and 2.4 grade levels in spelling in three semesters.
- After one semester, the average increase is 8 months in reading and 1.1 grade levels in spelling.
RIGHT START MATHEMATICS: based on Asian methods of introducing math to students. Uses an abacus and other manipulatives.
SINGAPORE MATH: Math texts from Singapore, the highest scoring country in world-wide mathematics assessment.
LEARNING BREAKTHROUGH: a neuro-motor program that improves the ability to focus on tasks to be done. These physical activities are helpful for students who find it "hard to concentrate." Back to top

Theology
Students receive clear, orthodox instruction in the catechism, the Bible and the traditions and customs of the Catholic Church. All texts used in the educational process are loyal to the Magisterium of the Catholic Church.

English Grammar
The ability to to comprehend the wirtten word and express oneself clearly affects all areas of life and is a core ingredient to success. For this reason, the study of grammar occupies a significant portion of the curriculum. The Academy teaches all parts of speech, their uses, all verb tenses, usage and diagramming. Back to top
Science
A complete program, includes a two year biology cycle, emphasizing cellular development, so important in the field of ethics. Back to top
Latin
Latin is a key to the vocabulary and structure of English and many other modern languages, as well as the technical vocabulary of the sciences. Above all, Latin remains the official language of the Roman Catholic Church, and the birthright of all Catholics. Latin is taught at every grade level. Back to top
Music/Drama
Emphasis is placed on Gregorian Chant and four-part singing. Drama is a key part in our curriculum and teaches our students self-discipline and self-confidence. Back to top
History and Literature Classes
Students read the literature of the historical period they are studying. Back to top
- Classes in subject areas are small with the average size being three.
- Effective, special instruction is available for students who are below grade level
for reading, spelling and mathematics.
- Individualized program can be developed for students attending part-time.
After-school tutoring is also available for students enrolled in public or private schools.
