Q:What is Koinonia Academy?
A: Koinonia Academy is a not for profit tutoring service for Catholic homeschooling parents. It offers an entire Curriculum from Kindergarten through 12.
Q: Do I have to be a home-schooing parent to register my child at the Academy?
A: Actually, when you register your student with the Academy you are automatically a "home-schooling" parent, with all the rights and responsibilities granted to you by the state of Michigan.
Q: Will my student receive a high school diploma?
A: Koinonia will issue its own high school diploma, a certificate of completion of its studies.
Q: Will other schools accept my student's credits from the Academy?
A: There has been no problem with students transferring to public or private schools.
Q: What is the tuition for such a service?
A: The tuition set by the Board of Directors of Koinonia Association, Inc. The cost for 2007-2008 will be $2,500 per student. Tuition assistance may be available. No student has ever been turned away due to inability to pay.
Q: Is Koinonia accredited"
A: Koinonia Academy is an approved Candidate for Accreditation by the National Association of Private Catholic and Independent Schools.
Q: Do your remediation classes really work?
A: Yes, they do. We have tremendous faith in Riggs Phonics and Right Start Math because of the gains our students have made with these programs. Some students have gone from a Grade 4 Math to Algebra One in less than two years. We have had students jump 9 to 10 grade leveles in reading within three years.
Q: When did the Association begin?
A: The Koinonia Board of Directors has been in existence since 2001. The Board established the Curriculum and tested it on selected students before opening the Academy in September 2004.
Q: What is the goal of Koinonia?
A: Our goal is what we hope your goal is for your children: an excellent formation in the Catholic faith and an excellent program which will help form your children for the world today and for eternity!
Program Achievements
(2006-2007 Academic Year)
- All students gained at least one full year in reading ability in less than nine months.
- Students participated in the President's Physical Fitness program, and 70% of the
partici-pating students scored achieved the highest level of fitness as measured by the program.
Program Initiatives
As Koinonia Academy prepares to begin its fourth year of operation,
the following initiatives are under way.
- The Angel Program, a tuition-assistance program, has been established by the Board of Directors of Koinonia Association, the sponsoring group of Koinonia Academy. Anyone interestes in becoming an "Angel" should contact Jack Stong at 989-687-5056.
- Koinonia Academy will be applying for accreditation through the National Association of Private Catholic Independent Schools (NAPCIS) during this academic year.
